Chris sat out on the balcony of his hotel room, seated in the patio chair, his feet propped on the bottom bar of the railing. He sighed gently as he sipped coffee, looking out at the city laid out before him...the city rose and fell in waves, the buildings providing a structured background for his thoughts. The sun was just now coming up behind the buildings, lighting up the sky in brilliant orange, reds and yellows. There were slender streams of clouds in the bright sky being backlight from the impressive sunrise. He couldn't help but smile.
The patio door slid open quietly and she stepped from the doorway, tying her robe closer as she watched him: he hadn't even heard the door open. He took another sip of his drink, rolling the cup between his fingers as he continued to watch the sun come up behind the city... She smiled again as she stepped behind him, her fingers draping gently along his shoulders. He tensed slightly before she leaned over his shoulder with a smile. He grabbed her hand with a grin, pressing a kiss to her palm. "Morning."
"Good morning..." she started rubbing his shoulders, feeling how tense he was. She pouted slightly. "Are you all right Chris...?"
He shrugged slightly. "I'm all right I suppose."
"But what's wrong?"
He sighed, still playing with the now only quarter full coffee cup. "Nothing really I guess...well...have you ever felt like there was something...missing? Something more you want, but you're not sure what it is?"
She nodded slightly. "Well...yeah, I suppose so." she paused, pout still on her. "It's been a long time though..."
"Well...what was it?"
"Hmm..." she continued rubbing his shoulders, starting to feel the tenseness slip away as she thought. "Hearing you but never being able to touch you...I just didn't realize it until it was almost too late...I'm glad I fixed that problem though."
He smiled slightly, glancing back at her, catching her with those brilliant blue eyes. "Really?"
She smiled brightly at him, dazzling him with her innocent smile. "Really really."
He turned back towards the city, taking another sip of the coffee. "Wow..." both were quiet for a few moments. He smiled again with a shake of his head. "Wow..."
"You said that already."
"Let me finish smartass." She laughed as he grinned at her before settling back into his chair. He looked out once more, grabbing one of her hands. "I'm very proud of myself for getting your attention."
She smiled as he pulled her in front of himself, looking up at her. Her fingers came out, brushing a long strand of blonde hair from his face. "I'm proud of you too: it's not an easy task to get MY attention Mr. Jericho."
"No need to be so formal mademoiselle." he stated, making her smile with the decent French-Canadian accent.
"But I think so highly of you..."
He smiled again, pulling her down into his lap. She rested her head against his shoulder, her arms going around him. He set the cup on the table, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her close, breathing in the clean rose scent of her hair. "I'm glad...and you know that thing, about not knowing what's missing...?"
"Yeah..."
He pulled her face towards his, meeting her eyes, his own gaze serious. "I think I just found what I was looking for..."
"And what's that Chris?" her soft voice rang gently on the crisp morning air.
His smile was warm as he brought her face closer to his own, fingers running through her hair. "Knowing you are in my reach..."
She smiled again before he kissed her, easing her mind of any fears, those evaporated with his gentle touch and wanted contact and kiss. They parted moments later, looking at each other. She smiled warmly at him. "I love you Chris."
He smiled at her, his eyes lightening up with that welcome gesture. "I love you too Stephanie."
